I am honored to be included in the next Chicken Soup for the Soul book due to be released in April 2014. It will be a compilation of stories directed to the Alzheimer's caregiver. Its been such a long road for me this last 11 years and its not over yet. The thing is, "ya get the life ya get and ya gotta live it". This has been ringing in my head for so long. It does keep me going.
I have no choice. I have to get out of bed, I have to earn some money, I need to care for…Continue

I must say that in spite of the challenge and heartache of watching my baby-daddy, as I like to call him lately, disappear over the last 11 years as a result of Alzheimer’s Disease, I still consider myself a very happy person. How in the world could this be true?
Well, primarily, there have been a many people who have given us inspiration, thank you Soleil for one. We first met Soleil Moon Frye almost 4 years ago, 2010, in DC during the Alzheimer’s Forum. It was a big year for…Continue

It’s New Year’s Eve Day 13/14. I hold a photo of Jay and me on New Year’s Eve 00/01 and remember what it was like when we first met. I miss him terribly. Once again I am reduced to tears by my memories.
He was an amazing boyfriend. He was always sending flowers. He used to stop at my house early in the morning on his way to work and make me coffee. He drove for a half hour to have lunch with me near my office whenever he could. He took me to the beach at night to have “fire side…Continue

During my first pregnancy, I thought, how can I tell this baby to be anything he wants to be when I am not what I want to be.
Shortly after the birth of my son, I graduated from Parsons The New School of Design with a degree in Fashion Studies. With the help of near-by mother and mother-in-law, I was able to graduate with honors while balancing my newborn son, my husband and my home in the West Village. I would ride my bike to class and rush home during breaks to breast-feed…Continue

I tend to be a glass half-full kind of a gal but I have a confession: motherhood is hard. Really freakin’ hard. No one said it would be easy, but I never expected it to be quite so challenging -- in every way imaginable.
Physically, motherhood is grueling. …Continue

I don’t need to tell you about the Amanda Todd tragedy. All I can say is that when these high profile stories hit the media, it is an opportunity for parents to sit down with their kids and find some teachable moments woven within the tragedy. I sat down with my tweens and watched the video. Here is my advice about having the conversation:
1) Before giving them information, ask them what they already know. Even if your kids are not on Facebook or into texting…Continue
