Mama Friendships – Are Yours At Risk? By: Julie Cole

Maintaining friendships when you are a mama can be a tricky business. Often already juggling a hectic home life, work and children, while also trying to carve out a bit of time with Daddy-o, can leave little room for your girlfriends.

The way I see it, there are a few friendship fizzling high risk situations:

1) You become a mama: Many report that their friendships with single/childless girlfriends suffer. Mama feels they… Continue

When Are White Lies In Parenting Ok?

Photo by: Moonfrye member Carrie Lopez

We recently read an interesting New York Times blog (pasted below) that discusses parenting and when telling white lies to your children may or may not be appropriate. You've gotta give this a read and weigh in on this topic! It's the one thing no one ever really talks about but you know comes up a lot.…

Travels with CHICKS. Ilse, Meeno, Bindi and Mette do a New Baby Chicken.

Welcome Independence!

As sadness still lingers around the chicken pen from losing our favorite Arucana chicken, Aruca, happiness chips and pips it way out of a shell. Recently, some friends brought a chick up to us. It was obviously hand raised because it was so friendly. They had found it dumped at the stable and were worried it was too socialized to humans to dig in with the other chicks. It was a lovely chicken, bright eyes and shiny sable… Continue

How to Turn an Embarassing Situation into an Opportunity to Advocate

After the Andre “The Hawk” Dawson Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon, we (Jay and me, Ellen Brown CEO of Alz Assoc SE Fla Chapter, Eli and Debra) were leaving and jumped into the elevator, there were two people in with us: Major McQueen and another MPD person.

So our friend Eli (his wife Deb was diagnosed with AD at 52) looks at Major McQueen, points at me and say "she drives really fast"... so I am in total SHOCK and start sputtering trying to think of what to say, I work in Miami a… Continue

And The Winner of The Palms Casino Resort Give Away Is...

A huge congrats to Sharone Pickle and her family for winning The Palms Casino Resort Give Away! Sharone's husband and family are true football fans and as you can see here from their pictures, they are decked out in their favorite teams' jerseys and colors. So many of you entered to win and we thoroughly enjoyed your stories and photos but ultimately, there could only be one winner. There were so many other… Continue

Andre "the Hawk" Dawson supports Alzheimers

Wow what a busy summer - Jay and I attended the Hall of Fame induction luncheon for Andre "The Hawk" Dawson a few weeks back. We attended with some Alz Assoc folks and some good friends in the Alz community to thank Andre for naming Alzheimers Association as his charity of choice. What a wonderful and humble man. He gave a heartwarming speech about the family support that helped him reach his potential. Andre's Grandmother had Alzheimer's, she passed away many years ago, but he remembers what… Continue

Budget for Education = Jepardizing our future

Have you ever felt you are at a certain place for a reason. Yesterday we ventured over to Tony's middle school for a plan meeting. They told the parents how things are working and what is really not working. They have no money in the Budget for anything. They have no music program , the "Sport" Program they do have is in Jepordy and they may not be able to provide it. They have a drama club that meets on Thursday.

This makes me Irrate. Get in shape…

COCONUT WATER

Over here at Moonfrye, some of us have been sipping on coconut water lately and others of us still don't know too much about it. Coconut water seems to be one of the latest crazes and happens to be delicious and an excellent source of nutrition. This may be a fantastic alternative for those of you out there that aren't huge water drinkers or for some of you that have children that don't like to drink water. The PETA website posted a blog recently… Continue

Day 1 ~ Adventures of getting this momma back into shape.

Yes being skinny is a goal but my true want is to live a long life. SO it is more about health reasons then Vanity. But Vanity is a plus. I figured I would share this journey with you. My hunger pains, set backs , and accomplishments. This isnt my first day but it is a day of fighting. I am doing a low Caloric diet and I am tricking my metabolism back to where it should be. I started with a Dinner for Breakfast. This was so hard on my mind. I am not ussually very hungry in the morning and My… Continue

Travels with CHICKS. Meeno, Ilse, Bindi & Mette do Baja California!

We wanted to get the kids out of the country for Spring Break. So we drove there. Life as a busy photographer often makes advance planning (buying air tickets) tricky. Ilse whips up grand schemes, and then a big job comes in and interferes. This never stops Ilse from scheming though.

During her regular perusal of the Lonely Planet section, she realized that there was so much of Baja Calfornia we had to yet to see, specifically the… Continue

Getting life Back on Track

SO I have felt like many mothers feel the past couple of days. Over whelmed and just plain crazy. All the things that need to get done and should get done. Well we took a short vacay and now I feel better. I am reading to take the world. I am starting a new year as of today. First thing is to get organized. This is the only way I find peace in my mind is to be organized and on a schedule. Second thing is to Loose weight. I was always skinny until I let it go while I was in school. Life threw… Continue

I'm LATE, I'm late, I'm late for a very important date.

My entire life I've been late. I always start getting ready too late and I leave the house too late which means that I'm always rushing. It amazes me because I don't actually enjoy rushing and I could clearly figure out a way to better manage my time so that I'm not rushing and yet, I just can't seem to change. If there is too much time, I'm almost paralyzed by it. Of course the thought of arriving somewhere early is… Continue

20-Something Year Olds

There was recently a very interesting article in the NY Times, "What Is It About 20-Somethings?" about the fact that it's taking 20-something year olds longer to come into adulthood these days. "A cover of The New Yorker last spring picked up on… Continue

Travels with CHICKS. Ilse, Meeno, Bindi and Mette do Catalina Island Backside Camping.

Sometimes you do something cool and find that it's cool enough to do it again next year. A few years go by and you realize you've created a family tradition, that your kids can't remember a time when they didn't do that cool thing. So it goes with our yearly camping bonanza on the backside of Catalina Island. It's one of the best kept family camping secrets in California: total removal from city life, but you can bring all the amenities. It's car… Continue

Have you missed me!?

Hi moonfrye family! I know I've been gone for a while, so here's what's been going on on my life!

After dedicating about 8 months to helping build this community, I made a lot of friends, had a lot off fun, worked with Soleil, and had a lot of funny and productive late night conversations with Hillary.

As many of you know, I graduated from college last year... since graduation I've been learning to love life again. Spending a lot of time traveling, playing music,… Continue
