My little girl

It is 11:34 p.m here in Utah and my 2 year old daughter is refusing to go to bed.

And she won't go to sleep when I try to lay her down.

What to do?

Sleepy…

My Monster In Law

I am a huge supporter in family.  And writing this post hurts my heart, but my MIL has hurt my heart more.  I have been with her son since March of 2006, and married since December 2009.  And from the very first day we met she has been trying to break us up.  I have always kept my mouth shut and never said anything.  But lately she has gone to a whole new level.  It started about 2 years ago.  My husband was in the army for 8 years.  The year before we got married he was deployed for 15…

Say what?!

Last night, SB saw me naked. Which is no big deal as far as I am concerned. Except there was a little something "extra" that prompted a conversation I was not the least bit prepared for...

"Mommy!" she exclaimed. "What wrong in your butt?"

Huh?

Oh *%#$! My period started. SB had seen the string between my legs. This is SO not a conversation I want to have with my almost three year old. So at first, I tried to dismiss it.

"It's…

Mommy Depression

When my oldest son was diagnoised with Aspergers I went into Super mom mode I grabed my cape and went off not only to save the world of my child but other children as well. This was made our families mission Think of others before ourselves. This can be fine but i never allowed my self to cope. I turned my head to the spirl of uncontroled Chaos. Well It finally slammed me in the face this week. I have always thought solutions are there and we will make things possible until now. I never…

Laugh

The other day, I was in line at the bakery of the grocery store, waiting to get SB a cookie before doing my weekly shopping. There was another mom behind me, with two little ones in her cart. I smiled at her.

"This is one of those things I swore I'd never do before I became a mom," I said.

She laughed heartily. "Me, too."

I continued, "I had a pretty long list back in those days. Think I've broken every single one of my pre-child…

Lessons from the playground

The other day, SB and I took advantage of some lovely warm weather and went to our favorite park. I was surprised, as early as it was in the day, to see the playground was full of older children. Turns out they were attending a birthday party.

SB loves older kids. She follows them around and tries to do what they do. Which I think is totally normal. But the reaction she received this time was a first for her.

As she started toward the stairs to the play…

How Not to Cut Down Your Own Christmas Tree by Mary Lauren Weimer

When my husband decided that this would be the year we'd cut down our own Christmas tree I was skeptical. I didn't doubt his lumberjack skills or his ability to wield a bow saw. What concerned me were the thirty miles between our house and the Christmas Tree Farm.

I've lived in Appalachia nearly all my life. Thirty miles in the midwest is thirty miles as the crow flies. Because of the terrain, thirty miles in Appalachia could be an all-day adventure. We have cell phones and a GPS and…

Moonfrye Family: My Fantasy Thanksgiving (Or Things I'd Make if I Were a Better Mom) by Mary Lauren Weimer

Before I had children Thanksgiving was just another excuse to sleep in, overeat, and hang out with my family and friends.

In other words, it was like any old Saturday. Except with gravy and large cartoon characters in float form taking over my television for four hours.

Now that I'm a mom Thanksgiving has taken on an entirely new meaning.

Recipes need to be located. The good china needs to be cleaned. There is marathon grocery shopping to be…

Working too much, Living to little?

This is my definition of Mom - 2 words:  Super.  Woman.

But for some reason - I spend most of my days feeling like I'm 100% woman (in an engorged and crampy kind of way), and 0% Super.  But I'm okay with it.  Why?  Because I'm doing all this, and more, for the sake of this little itsy bitsy person that has completely taken over my life.    She IS my life.  She is the first face I see in the morning, the last breath I feel on my face at night, and the sound of delight (and…

My Childs the BEST

We all believe our children ar ethese Amazing beings! But when do we put what we want before what our child wants. I have been thumbing through activities for my kids since they were little. Ballet, Karate, sports , and more. Trying to find their nitch. I see it all to often and sometimes this monster of what I want comes and takes over my brain. Emily asked me to play soccer for the first time this year. I didnt think she would be on a undeafeated team. This is Emilys first year. I am proud…
