I don't know about you, but the 4th of July is stressful to me. I feel like everyone always starts in with the, "What are you doing for the 4th?" and then you feel the pressure to have a really great plan in place. To me, on the pressure scale, the 4th is second to New Year's Eve. It has always been one of those days where I say leading up to the day that I don't really care much about seeing fireworks stating, "Once you've seen them, they are all the same" and yet, somehow by the time the day rolls around, I inevitably get caught up on figuring out how to see some fireworks.

Fireworks are so magical and they light up the sky in a way that nothing else does (short of some kind of meteorite shower). I almost feel as though they bring a child-like sense of awe and intrigue back to most adults. The festive red, white and blue color scheme of course is always another great perk of the day. It's always fun seeing how people creatively incorporate these colors into their dress, food, decorations, etc.

What do you do on the 4th of July? Do you have any rituals? Share with us so we can maybe "borrow" some of them ;)

Yes Alan, no Roman Candles here! Actually, in most parts of the state fireworks are banned completely.
I did spend a 4th in Washington once near an Army base... some people "borrowed" some explosives from the base. That was fun :)

We usually go to my moms house and set off fireworks and watch all the illegal ones flying in the air. But since we are no longer in Colorado. we are in the same postion. We do not have family here in cali so we are going to find new tradtions maybe have a water ballon fight, play in the neighbors pool, have my husbands famous ribs, and just enjoy eachother. And add the water melon cake to the list.

When I was younger my cousin moved in next to us. It gave me a much needed haven. I remember the first summer that he was there and he had a barbeque. I smelled the smoke of the fireworks, the hamburgers on the grill, and my cousin assured me life was about to get a whole lot better. I believe him and it was one of the most magical nights of my life, ever since, July 4th has been my favorite holiday.

Growing up I lived in a court. Every year we had the best of the best. My neighbor was a San Francisco cop and brought home fireworks from the city that he confiscated lol. Now I live in the country and you would think I would have to go to a near by town to see them. Not true. I will walk out my door on Sunday night at the sound of the first big boom. My neighbor will honor us with a spectacular display of yes once again illegal fireworks.
