Star Gazing & Dolphin Chasing By: Carrie Lopez

We wanted to share with you Moonfrye member Carrie Lopez's Blog

Many people do not get the chance to take a long vacation. We really have to sometimes be creative and think outside the box when it comes to vacations. This past weekend we were invited by our neighbors to go camping in Santa Barbara at Refugio State Beach. We went with a new tent and sleeping bags in tow. The kids just love the beach so they were thrilled to have this opportunity. I was glad because we could take a step back and get to know each other again after our long school year. It was amazing to Kayak with the kids, watch wild dolphins up close and talk about nature and life. Things that usually go unnoticed usually are appreciated when your mind is clear - Watching the sea anemones when the tide was low and having smores by the camp fire while enjoying the stars with waves crashing in the back ground. The sight and smell of the ocean was beyond words.
Vacation is good for the family, the soul, and the mind. It is a fact people who take more vacations have lower blood pressure and stress. We plan on not only discovering different parks this summer, but also the ocean and the beaches. We need these days to remember how good life is and to not sweat over little issues. We need to learn how to exist. How do you relax and enjoy your life?

I'm amazed you were able to get into Refugio!

I remember when I was young my family would take trips to McGrath State Beach in Oxnard.
Your kids will have those memories forever!

So true Carrie. Funny I just spent 3 days at Black Butte Lake Kayaking and fishing. It was my niece (18 months) Brylies first camping trip. It's not easy camping with a baby but well worth the effort for the time spent with family and friends. We do smores with marshmellows and chewy choc chip cookies. Just a bit easier and just as good lol thought I'd pass it along.
